Legendary singer Tina Turner’s friend Cher recently talked about the final days of the iconic rock queen, revealing that they had a special bond. Cher shared about her last visit to Tina’s home amid her illness while appearing on MSNBC’s The Beat With Ari Melber.
Cher explained that she started visiting Tina because she wanted to spend time with the Caribbean queen of rock ‘n’ roll. “I need to put this time into our friendship so she knows we haven’t forgotten her,” Cher said of her visits.
Tina, who had kidney failure and needed dialysis, fought her illness for a long period of time, and she was strong until the very end, as Cher recounted. Cher remembered that during her last days, Tina “was really happy” and was enjoying life despite her illness. Cher also shared how she and Tina spent five hours together on their first visit to her new home in Switzerland and had a great time laughing and enjoying each other’s company.
Tina’s representative later announced the heartbreaking news of her passing in an official statement. She died peacefully at the age of 83 at her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, after a long illness. “With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model,” the statement added.
