Dr Yasmin Rashid, former Punjab Health Minister and current Central Punjab President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been arrested by the Lahore police once again. The arrest was made after the Lahore High Court suspended the detention of 17 women, including Dr Rashid, who were arrested in connection with riots that occurred during protests following the arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan on May 9.
Dr Rashid was already wanted by the police in connection with three other cases filed against her at Sarwar Road, Gulberg, and Shadman police stations. The charges against her are serious, including sections related to terrorism. The police sources confirmed that she was taken into custody at Services Hospital, Lahore, where she was transferred after her health condition deteriorated.
Meanwhile, the 17 detained women, including Dr Rashid, were supposed to be released from Kot Lakhpat jail as per the high court’s orders. However, despite the court order, all the women were rearrested in connection with other cases. Dr Rashid’s deteriorating health condition led to her being admitted to the hospital again, and subsequently, the police arrested her under their custody in the hospital itself.
Dr Yasmin Rashid is reportedly suffering from respiratory problems, according to party sources. The PTI leader now faces serious charges and will have to face the consequences in the court of law.
