In a recent interview with Interview magazine, Ethan Hawke spoke about his desire to lend his voice for an animated film.

The Training Day actor stated, “My whole life as an actor I’ve dreamed of getting some email saying, ‘You can audition for the voice in one of these.” Daveed Diggs, who starred in The Little Mermaid, expressed his surprise that Hawke had never voiced a character in an animated movie before. Hawke responded, “I’ve never done one. Nobody’s ever come.”

He further added, “I watch all these movies, and I’m like, ‘Oh, I could do that guy’s voice. Oh man, that should happen tomorrow.” When Diggs asked what he meant, Hawke affirmed his desire to voice a character in an animated film.

In other news, Hawke expressed uncertainty about the success of his Before trilogy. “It’s not like I don’t want compliments and prizes and money and fire engines. I want everything, but I know how to listen to the river, how to listen to my own voice,” he added.

Hawke also shared that during the filming of the Before trilogy and Boyhood with Richard Linklater, he was unsure if the films would even be released. He did not worry about it, as he was personally interested in the projects, and that was all that mattered to him.
