The director of ‘Fast X’, Louis Leterrier, recently discussed how Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returned to the franchise despite having bad blood with Vin Diesel. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Leterrier explained how they reached out to Johnson and his team after trying to secure his return behind-the-scenes.
“The peace treaty … I kind of did. We all did. Ultimately, the movie did. I didn’t know Dwayne personally, but we reached out to Dwayne and Dwayne’s team. We sort of looked at each other from across the room and winked a few months back, saying, “We should work together,'” he said.
He added, “And then I had this idea, and I presented it to the producers and the studio. And then we reached out to Dwayne and his team and said, “Just come and watch the movie. You have to love the movie first.” So he came to see the movie and really loved it, and then we started talking.”
The filmmaker also explained how important it was for him to have Johnson and other key actors like Gal Gadot in the franchise. According to Leterrier, the franchise was built on the characters and actors, not just the action scenes.
Previously, Johnson called out Diesel for emotionally forcing him to rejoin the franchise. In response, Johnson had stated, “I told [Diesel] directly that I would not be returning to the franchise.” However, despite their past issues, it seems that the two actors have managed to put their differences aside and deliver a great performance in ‘Fast X’.
