A year after the tragic death of their drummer, Taylor Hawkins, the Foo Fighters announced their summer tour lineup for 2023.

The Grammy award-winning band revealed that Josh Freese would join them on tour. Freese has an impressive resume in the music industry, having previously worked with bands like Nine Inch Nails, The Replacements and Guns N’ Roses.

The late Hawkins passed away last year due to an accidental overdose while the band was in Bogota, Colombia, for a scheduled performance.

Variety reported that the Foo Fighters had made a conscious effort to keep the identity of their new drummer under wraps, opting to reveal the news via a livestream called “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts.” During the stream, the members of the band joked around in their rehearsal room before revealing Freese behind the drum kit.

The clever reveal involved a fake-out with famous rock drummers Chad Smith, Tommy Lee, and Danny Carey seemingly auditioning for the role before Freese took the spotlight.

After the reveal, the band performed tracks from their upcoming album, “But Here We Are,” set to release on June 2, 2023.
