Harrison Ford, the famous Hollywood actor, has spoken up about the controversy surrounding his appearance in the upcoming fifth edition of “Indiana Jones” where he will appear de-aged. The 80-year-old actor, who has faced criticism due to his younger version in the movie, has defended the use of de-aging technology, saying that it is not a “kind of Photoshop magic” and he looked like that 35 years ago.
In the recent trailer for “Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny,” the audience saw a shocking moment where a bag was lifted from Harrison Ford’s head to reveal a much younger version created through VFX technology. The team of the film shared that a new VFX technology was created in order to de-age Ford using artificial intelligence to go through decades-old footage from the Lucasfilm studio.
However, this move has faced criticism from reviewers who questioned the believability of the technology and why a younger actor wasn’t used instead. But Ford hit back at the press conference held on May 19, 2023, at the Cannes Film Festival.
“This process, this scientific mining of this library, this was put to good [use]… It’s just a trick unless it’s supported by a story, and it sticks out like a sore thumb if it’s not honest, it’s not real… I mean, emotionally real. And so I think it was used very skillfully,” he said, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
