Johnny Depp reflected on his journey and found inspiration from the words of his mentor, Hunter Thompson, during a recent interview with The Associated Press that followed his return to the Cannes Film Festival with his film Jeanne du Barry after a tumultuous year.
Depp spoke about his personal and professional struggles, highlighting his difficult domestic abuse accusations by his ex-wife Amber Heard that led to a lengthy libel trial. He likened his feeling during that time to being in a Bugs Bunny cartoon and wondering how he ended up there.
While Depp eventually won a defamation lawsuit against Heard, public opinion remains divided. Last year, he was largely removed from his well-known roles in the Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantastic Beasts franchises.
Despite the setbacks, Depp drew upon the words of Hunter Thompson, who advised him to “buy the ticket, take the ride.”
Depp stated that he has no regrets and that he has learned valuable lessons throughout the ordeal.
Although the response on social media regarding his return to Cannes was mixed with some expressing discontent, Depp was met with fans eagerly seeking autographs and holding signs that read “Viva Johnny!”
