The Imran Khan Cricket Ground located in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal has been sealed by the Karachi East District Municipal Corporation (DMC) over illegal “commercial activities” being carried out on its premises.
The well-equipped cricket ground named after former Pakistan captain and Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan was constructed from MNA funds by former PTI lawmaker, Alamgir Khan. Reports suggest that it was functioning as a public park for local residents before being closed.
The DMC East received several complaints from nearby residents that the cricket ground was being used for commercial purposes instead of its intended use. As a result, the local government body took action and sealed the facility.
A DMC spokesperson has noted that the ground’s name was not approved by the district council, and as a consequence, its name boards have been dismantled, and the ground has been placed under DMC East’s control.
After being taken in charge by local authorities, the cricket ground will now be accessible to the public free of cost.
