The top leadership of the military has vowed to take strict action against protesters and their supporters under local laws. This includes the Pakistan Army Act and the Official Secrets Act. The announcement came after violent protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, in which military installations were attacked.

The violent protests were sparked after PTI Chairman Imran Khan was sent to jail in the Al-Qadir Trust case. After being released on bail, the party chief claimed that his workers did not instigate the violence and distanced the PTI from them.
