One dead in fresh violence in Manipur

On Thursday, officials reported a new outbreak of ethnic violence in the northeastern state of Manipur in India. As a result, one individual was shot dead, and residences were set ablaze. Inter-ethnic violence erupted earlier this month, claiming the lives of at least 70 people and displacing tens of thousands in Manipur, which has been in turmoil. The Kuki tribal community was enraged by the majority Meitei group’s potential government job quotas as well as other advantages in the form of affirmative action, resulting in the outbreak of violence.
