Another pre-dawn raid conducted by the Islamabad Police resulted in the arrest of Dr. Shireen Mazari, a senior Vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), on Friday.
As per sources, the raid took place in the early hours of Friday morning. This arrest comes after a series of PTI leader arrests, including the party’s chief Imran Khan, who was taken into custody from the premises of the Islamabad High Court on May 9.
In addition to Imran Khan, Asad Umar was arrested from Islamabad High Court, Fawad Chaudhry from the Supreme Court premises, Shah Mehmood Qureshi from the Gilgit Baltistan House in Islamabad, and PTI leader Ali Mohammad Khan along with Senator Ejaz Chaudhry were also arrested.
All these PTI leaders were detained under section three of the Maintenance of Public Order (3MPO) as the authorities claimed.
In a significant and favorable development for PTI on May 11, the Supreme Court declared Imran Khan’s arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case “illegal”. The apex court ordered the authorities to release him “immediately.”
The court then instructed Imran Khan to present himself before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) by tomorrow. The same court had described Imran Khan’s detention as lawful. Furthermore, the apex court also established that no one can be arrested on the premises of a court. The top court allowed Imran Khan to spend the night with his family.
