The police conducted a raid on Thursday at the residence of former Punjab Chief Minister, Parvez Elahi, who is also the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central President, in Lahore’s Gulberg area, to arrest him over Rs70 million corruption charges after his interim bail was cancelled by the court.

Earlier today, an anti-corruption court rejected his interim bail due to his failure to appear before the court citing health issues. His arrest has been ordered concerning charges of embezzlement of development funds allocated for the Gujrat district.

The anti-corruption court judge declared his medical certificate bogus, which claimed that Elahi had been experiencing chest pain. The DIG operation police and a heavy contingent of police and anti-corruption personnel are present outside his residence.

An Elahi spokesperson said that Parvez Elahi is not present at his residence. The roads leading to Zahoor Elahi House, Elahi’s residence, have been blocked for traffic.

Elahi’s counsel stated that his bail was approved in all cases registered until May 2, and it was dismissed in one of the cases today due to an old medical certificate. He further added that the police would not be allowed to enter the premises without a search warrant.
