Sam Smith has left his fans heartbroken once again by cancelling his two planned concerts due to a vocal cord injury.
The non-binary singer halted a performance in Manchester on Wednesday (24 May) after a short while to the disappointment of their fans. The same admirers have taken to social media to express their sadness over the cancellations of their shows in Birmingham and Glasgow, which were rescheduled due to illness previously but couldn’t go ahead because of the singer’s latest setback.
The Stay With Me hitmaker took to Instagram Story to convey the message to their fans about the cancellations and the reason behind them. They are “heartbroken” according to their message, but they need “complete vocal rest” to recover.
“Doctors have advised due to a vocal cord injury, Sam must have complete vocal rest. Sam is heartbroken to have had to cancel these shows but they have been told by doctors that if they keep singing, they will do permanent damage to their voice,” the singer’s spokesperson said.
The spokesperson also added, “If they take some rest, they will be able to perform again.”
Fans of Sam Smith expressed their sadness on social media as one said, “Hope Sam Smith is okay but so gutted the show is canceled tonight” while another stressed out the fact that their daughter who was his young carer had bought tickets as a Christmas present and was even more upset than them. Another fan wished for the speedy recovery of Sam Smith.
