Law enforcement officials took action after a video went viral on social media showing children playing on smartphones at a shop. Police in the Faqirabad area of Peshawar have arrested at least seven people who were renting out smartphones to minors. The suspects rented out cellular phones to kids who would then use them to play online games like PUBG and watch adult content videos.
During a raid on two shops in the area, 45 phones were recovered. The shopkeepers charged Rs60 per hour to rent a smartphone. Yesterday, three of the suspects were apprehended while four more were arrested today after the initial arrests. The police have sealed the shops to deter this kind of business.
The police have filed a case and launched an investigation into the matter.
