Halle Bailey wowed the audience with her live performance of “Part of Your World,” a song from the movie The Little Mermaid on the American Idol’s Disney Night on Sunday.
The song depicts Ariel’s strong desire to transform into a human, and Bailey performed it brilliantly with an underwater aura and Ariel-like charm. “Part of Your World” is also the lead single from the upcoming live-action remake of the beloved Disney classic.
The movie soundtrack includes new renditions of the iconic songs originally composed by Disney music veterans Alan Menken and Howard Ashman for the 1989 animated movie. Menken collaborated with Lin-Manuel Miranda to create four new songs for the movie, with three appearing in the film and the fourth available as a DVD extra. The film stars Jonah Hauer-King as Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, a new character added for the live-action version.
At the Hollywood premiere of the Little Mermaid, Halle Bailey expressed her gratitude for being part of such a culturally significant film. “This moment means everything to me,” she said while playing the lead role of Ariel in the Disney’s live-action adaptation. She also added “I just feel really honoured and I’m happy the day has finally come where we can all watch it. It means the world to me, especially for the beautiful babies to be able to see a reflection of themselves,”
