On Thursday, iconic actor Tom Hanks was awarded an honorary Physician of Arts diploma by Harvard College, including to his already lengthy record of honors.
Introducing Hanks by a few of his most iconic roles, Harvard College President Lawrence Bacow known as Hanks, “Wilson’s bestie, Buzz’s buddy, Ryan’s savior, [and] America’s dad.”
Bacow sang praises of Hank’s big selection of roles, “with wit and charm, grit and gumption, his performances faucet the guts and soul and present us why in Tom we belief.”
Hanks, 66, was amused when he was gifted a Wilson volleyball – a reference to his 2000 hit Solid Away.
Throughout his 30-minute acceptance speech, Hanks touched on racism and mentioned, “For what are all of us, however human?”
Referring to himself as an “armchair historian who reads non-fiction for pleasure,” he talked about justice in America.
“For those who reside in the USA of America, the belief is sacred, unalterable, chiseled into the stone of the inspiration of our republic,” he mentioned.
